These reports come from the East Greenwich Police Department and are public information. An arrest does not mean the individual has been convicted of a crime.

Friday, May 9

6:10 p.m. – Police arrested a West Warwick man, 52, on a warrant out of Portsmouth, after the car he was traveling in – he was a passenger – was stopped because the brake lights were out. He was taken into custody and held at EGPD to await Portsmouth police.

Saturday, May 10

1:27 a.m. – Police arrested a Warwick man, 19, for driving while intoxicated, possessing alcohol as a minor, and refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test, after police watched as he drove through a stop sign at Love Lane and Division Street and crashed into the front yard of a Division Street house. The man tried to back up out of the yard, but the car wouldn’t budge. When police talked to the man, they could smell alcohol on his breath and his person. He admitted to having had “three or four beers” at a party in Warwick. Police saw an 18-pack of Blue Ribbon beer in the front seat and one open beer can that appeared to have spilled in the accident. The man agreed to take a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was taken into custody and processed at the station, where he refused the breath test to determine the amount of alcohol in his blood. Police gave him a district court summons for the DUI, and two traffic court summonses for the other violations. His car was towed from the scene of the accident

6:01 p.m. – Police arrested a Warwick man, 30, on a bench warrant after he was pulled over for excessive noise – police could hear music coming from his car as he drove north on Post Road even with the police car’s windows up. Routine checks turned up the warrant and the man was taken to the station for processing.

6:14 p.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich woman, 44, for driving with an expired license after she was involved in a car accident at Mawney and Friendship streets. Routine checks turned up the license violation – the license expired in March 2013. In addition, the car was unregistered. Police gave the woman a district court summons but told her the charges would be dropped if she renewed her license and brought the renewed license to the police station.

10:07 p.m. – Police arrested driver and passenger, both of Providence, on separate charges after the car was pulled over because the driver went through a red light. The driver, a woman, 43, was charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for driving a car with suspended registration. The passenger, a man, 45, was taken into custody after routine checks turned up five outstanding warrants. The woman received a district court summons and released. The car was towed from the scene. The man was held at EGPD until he was picked up by North Providence police.

Sunday, May 11

12:54 a.m. – Police cited a Johnston man, 24, for possessing marijuana (less than an ounce), after he was stopped on South County Trail because his car was missing its front license plate and the rear plate light was out. While talking to the driver, police smelled marijuana. Both the driver and his passenger told police there was no pot in the car but a search of the car turned up a baggie of what later tested positive for marijuana.

Monday, May 12

6:05 a.m. – An East Greenwich resident told police he was assaulted earlier in the morning, around 2:30 a.m., by a friend during a party at his home. The resident said his friend, angry with him over perceived mistreatment of another partygoer, hit him across the neck and knocked him to the floor. He gave police the name and contact info for the accused man, also of EG.
