Driver to Be Charged In Frenchtown Accident

by | Oct 2, 2019

Police announced Wednesday they have an arrest warrant out for Barbara Trojan, 60, of North Kingstown, the driver in the fatal crash on Frenchtown Road early Sept. 7, for driving while intoxicated, death resulting, following the return of blood test results that showed Trojan’s blood alcohol level at the time of the accident was .225 percent. The legal limit is .08 percent.

According to EGPD, Trojan will be turning herself in Thursday morning and will be arraigned at Kent County Courthouse following her arrest. She is also going to be charged with DUI, serious bodily injury, and operating to endanger personal injury.

Trojan, of North Kingstown, was driving alone, west on Frenchtown Road, just after midnight when she suddenly turned into the eastbound lane, hitting a car driven by Donna Daniels of East Greenwich, causing Daniels’ car to flip and land on its side. Daniels had three passengers, including her sister Patty Daniels, of North Kingstown, who died from her injuries five days later. The Daniels car was returning home after a wedding.

Members of American Legion Post 15 have confirmed that Trojan had been there for several hours Friday evening, Sept. 6, with her husband.

Patty Daniels’ boyfriend, Bruce Bartels, was also hospitalized for several days; the others in both cars were taken to hospitals, treated and released.
