It’s hard not to notice the house just east of 1149 Restaurant on Division Street, with the holes in the roof and one of the doors in the front just hanging open. It is not a loved thing.

But there is method to that house’s dilapidation. It was given over to the Warwick Fire Department more than a year ago to be used for training purposes. According to Asst. Chief Bruce Cooley, the house has one last training in it before it will be demolished.

“We will be using the house again in the near future,” he said Tuesday. A new training academy session has begun so they will spend time training at the house later in May.

“It aids us greatly. It’s not the norm that we actually have a physical property to do training with,” Cooley said. Usually, they have to be content using props.

After this training session is finished with the house, “then it will be torn down.”
