East Greenwich Food Pantry heads Chris and Steve Bartlett with some of the food donated by Cole Middle School students.

Want to collect some food donations? It seems like Cole Middle School is a great place to start, based on the huge outpouring of foodstuffs donated by students in the past few weeks.

Partnering with the East Greenwich Rotary, they were responding to the Alan Shawn Feinstein $1 Million Challenge. Alan Shawn Feinstein will divide $1 million among nonprofit hunger-fighting agencies nationwide. Feinstein will donate up to $1 per item collected.

Rotarian Sue Dorne brought the food over from Cole to St. Luke’s (which houses the food pantry) Wednesday morning. The EG Rotary has partnered with Cole before but the amount of food this year far surpassed previous collections.

“It’s amazing what they did,” said Dorne.
