This Week In EG: Scarecrows, School Committee, Farmers Market Dunk Tank

Monday, 9/18 

EG Farmers Market – The market features a dunk tank this week, with several town notables pledging to take a turn in the tank! The market, which features produce, meat, and prepared food vendors, is held on the grassy area next to Eldredge Elementary on First Avenue, from 2 to 6 p.m. 

Cole 7th & 8th Grade Open House – Starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, 9/19

School Committee meeting – On the agenda (find it here), a vote to appoint a principal for Eldredge, a report by the transportation subcommittee, and an update on the budget.

Cove Commission Joint Work Session – The Cove Commission will meet with the Town Council and the Planning Board. Find the agenda here. In the Police Community Room. 7 p.m.

Wednesday, 9/20

Planning Board meeting CANCELLED – The agenda items have been moved to the board’s Oct. 4 meeting.

Thursday, 9/21

Rosh  Hashanah – The Jewish New Year. No school today.

Saturday, 9/23

Scarecrow Contest – The 1st Annual EG Chamber of Commerce Scarecrow Contest takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Main Street. Participants will be assigned a light pole (26 in all) – preregistration is required! – and prizes will be awarded for first, second, third and people’s choice winners. To register, email Amy Moore.

Falling Leaves Main Street Stroll – Right after the Scarecrow Contest, the Falling Leaves Stroll takes place. Do some shopping, listen to music and enjoy the newly decorated street! From noon to 3 p.m.

OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE

Recycling is ON this week.

EG public schools raise money for hurricane relief It started at Meadowbrook, but quickly moved to include all six EG public schools, a fundraiser for school district devoted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Students are raising money at school as well and that money will be included in the overall donation. The gaol is $5,000. Donate here.

Register for email updates from the town – Sign up through the town’s “Notify Me” system and you can receive anything from a weekly email listing meetings and events to targeted emails about specific boards and commissions you are interested in. In addition, you will be notified in case of emergencies (i.e. parking bans, other important information). Click here to get started. LOOKING AHEAD

National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 26 – The Town of East Greenwich will join over 2,500 partners nationwide in hosting a National Voter Registration Day 2017 event at the East Greenwich Town Clerk’s Office (Town Hall, 125 Main Street) as part of a 50-state effort to register voters. From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
