Kristin Lehoullier, independent candidate for School Committee, pulled out of the race in an announcement on Facebook Sunday.
The post, on the East Greenwich Parents for Excellence Facebook page:
So, after much gnashing of teeth, I have decided to withdraw my name from the race this Fall. My professional commitments have increased recently to the extent that I do not feel that I will have the capacity to do the job as a school [committee] member, if I were elected. It was a hard decision to make, but temporary – I will reconsider for the next election cycle in 2 years. A shout out to everyone who encouraged and supported me. I am throwing my support to David, Michael, and Yan – best of luck.
Lehoullier was referring to David Osbourne, Michael Fain and Yan Sun, the other three School Committee candidates to emerge from a loose confederation of parents who have united in recent months over such issues as school start times and a desire for greater openness from the School Committee and administration.
Lehoullier, a strategic planning and organizational development consultant, has two children in EG schools.
Her departure from the race leaves seven candidates for School Committee, including incumbents David Green (chairman) and Mary Ellen Winter, both Republicans, and Jack Sommer, an independent. Osbourne is running as a Democrat. Fain and Sun are independents. Christine Meyer is running as a Republican. Four seats are open.
