William Burnett

William G. Burnett, 89, passed away Feb. 9. He was the husband of Elinor T. (McCaughey) Burnett. Born in Holyoke, Mass., he was the son of the late George S. and Margaret F. (Rennie) Burnett.

Mr. Burnett was a teacher at both Pawtucket Vocational High School and North Kingstown High School for 35 years, retiring in 1984. Prior to teaching, he was the owner/operator of Burnett Sheet Metal Co. in East Greenwich for 18 years.

He coached varsity basketball at both Pawtucket Vocational and North Kingstown High Schools, was a WWII US Army veteran and a graduate of West Warwick High School and Rhode Island College. He enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida where he was an avid golfer.

Besides his wife he is survived by two children, Steven C. Burnett and Colleen S. Osmanski, and six grandchildren. He was the father of the late Clyde A. Burnett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the DAV, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
