EG Girls Field Hockey Beats Barrington, 1-0

by | Sep 15, 2014

The EGHS Girls Field Hockey team beat Barrington, 1-0, Monday evening at Carcieiri Field. It was a sweet victory for longtime Avenger Coach Deb McMullen.

“I think it could be 10 years. It’s been a long time,” she said. “The year we won the state championship, in 2010, we didn’t beat Barrington. Bay View upset them in the semis and we beat Bay View.”

McMullen praised goalie Emma Schambers, who “did what goalies wanted to do for the last 10 years – shut out Barrington.”

Samantha Liccardi scored the only goal of the game, in the first half.

“Every possession, there were four people fighting for the ball. It was just a battle. It was a really good game.”

The Avengers are 4-1 on the season. They play Smithfield at home at 6:30 p.m.
