Construction of the new Cole Middle School began in 2009 and the first complaints from a neighboring homeowner that vibrations from equipment on the construction site were damaging his home were lodged two weeks later. More complaints followed and, in 2011, owners of three houses on Sarah’s Trace filed suit against the East Greenwich School Department, the Town of East Greenwich and several construction-related companies, arguing negligence.
