Trash/recycling pickup is delayed one day this week because of the Victory Day holiday. Recycling is ON; yard waste pickup is OFF (yard waste is being picked up every other week through September). For the full 2014 pickup schedule, click here.

Wednesday, Aug. 13

Food Pantry lunch program: The EG Interfaith Food Pantry has a monthly lunch program open to all. Lunch is provided by Jigger’s Diner. Starting next month, there will be a second lunch each month, with food provided by Crosby’s. In the dining room at St. Luke’s Church. 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Blood Drive @ Dunkin: The Bloodmobile will be at the Dunkin Donuts at 720 Main Street from 2 to 5 p.m. You can make an appointment here.

Historic District Commission meeting: The panel meets in Council Chambers at Town Hall. The agenda is here. 6 p.m.

Washington County Fair begins: The fair, which takes place in Richmond, offers rides, 4H exhibits, music, and fun food through Sunday. Find out more here.

Thursday, Aug. 14

Main Street Stroll: It’s the Taste of Main Street Thursday evening, where selected eateries will be offering samples off their menu, and as usual businesses will be open late and special vendors and musicians will be on the sidewalk. From 5 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 15

Goddard Park Farmers Market: Among the vendors at the Goddard Park market, several farmers, bakers (both for humans and dogs!), crafts, fish and poultry. Fridays through Oct. 31. 375 Ives Road. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Symposium book signing: Poet Martin Willetts, part of the Origami Poems Project,  will be reading from his work and there will be an open mic too. At Symposium, 1000 Division St., from 7 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 16

Sharing Locker: The Sharing Locker takes place the third Saturday of every month at Westminister Unitarian Church and is a place for people in need to get toiletries, pet food and other items not given out at food pantries. Sunday, Aug. 17

EG Animal Protection League open house: Every Sunday, the EGAPL opens its doors so people can meet the dogs and cats in need of permanent homes. You can find videos of some of the animals available for adoption here. EG Animal Hospital, 4302 Post Road, Cowesett. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Wild Harvest Open House to fight hunger: Wild Harvest is planning an Open House at our South County Trail location. This is to benefit the East Greenwich Interfaith Food Pantry, the RI Community Food Bank and also The Hunger Bus. Per the attached a poster there will be live entertainment and lots of fabulous food ( of course)! Chakulla of the Hunger Bus will be performing, along with other bands. We will be collecting donations of nonperishable food items and cash to help end hunger. Plenty of parking will be available. Bring your beach chairs, sit in the yard and listen to the music. From 12:30 to 6 p.m.

Author Matt Keefer @ Symposium: Poet and short story writer Matt Keefer, author of The Keeper of Dreams, will be at Symposium Books, 1000 Division St., at 3 p.m.
