How Cold Is It? As it happens, pretty darn cold, with early morning temperatures hovering around 0 degrees and a forecasted high of 19 degrees. If you are in need of a warm (and free) place to hang out for the day, the town has two designated “warming centers” – Swift Community Center and the EG Police Department’s Community Room. They are both available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friends of the Library Annual Meeting: After a little business, the humorist Carolyn Martino will present “Laughter is the Best Medicine.” The event is free and open to the public but RSVP is appreciated – call 401-884-9510. Refreshments will be served. In the library’s Silverman Room. From 6 to 8 p.m.

AfterProm EG 2015 meeting: AfterProm is an overnight event at the high school that will provide a safe and fun place to go after the prom. This will be the first year East Greenwich has tried such an event, but communities like Warwick and Barrington have been doing this for years. Learn how you can be part of it at this evening meeting at Wild Harvest, 1675 South County Trail at 6 p.m. If you have questions, email [email protected].

Friday, Jan. 9

Blood Drive: The Town of East Greenwich is sponsoring a blood drive today at Swift Community Center from 1 to 5 p.m. You can make an appointment on the RI Blood Center website here.

Saturday, Jan. 10

Punk rock documentary premiere at Odeum: The Rhode Island premiere of “Filmage – The Story of the Descendents/ALL,” takes place at the Greenwich Odeum at 8 p.m. Find more information here.
