Tuesday, Jan. 6

So this is winter … I guess we can’t pretend anymore – winter is really upon us. It’s going to be a teens and twenties kind of day, with possible snow.

General Assembly starts: The Rhode Island General Assembly – our state government! – gets to work starting this evening with the swearing in. In addition to Rep. Anthony Giarrusso and Sen. Lou Raptakis, the newly elected Sen. Mark Gee will be sworn in when the GA gathers at 4 p.m.

Town Council meeting: The council meets to interview applicants to various town boards and commissions, and then in executive session. Here’s the agenda. Town Hall. 6 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 7

Lunch on the Hill: Every Wednesday in the dining room at St. Luke’s, 99 Peirce St., lunch is served for all in need, from 11:15 to 12:15. In addition to St. Luke’s, Our Lady of Mercy, Christ Church and Westminister Unitarian churches have all taken on a Wednesday to serve the meal and local restaurants Jiggers, Wild Harvest, Crosby’s Cafe, and T’s take turns providing the food. Thursday, Jan. 8

Friends of the Library Annual Meeting: After a little Friends of the Library business, the humorist Carolyn Martino will present “Laughter is the Best Medicine.” The event is free and open to the public but an RSVP is appreciated – call 401-884-9510. Refreshments will be served. In the library’s Silverman Room. From 6 to 8 p.m.

AfterProm EG 2015 meeting: AfterProm is an overnight event at the high school that will provide a safe and fun place to go after the prom. This will be the first year East Greenwich has tried such an event, but communities like Warwick and Barrington have been doing this for years. Learn how you can be part of it at this evening meeting at Wild Harvest, 1675 South County Trail at 6 p.m. If you have questions, email [email protected].

Saturday, Jan. 10

Punk rock documentary premiere at Odeum: The Rhode Island premiere of “Filmage – The Story of the Descendents/ALL,” takes place at the Greenwich Odeum at 8 p.m. Find more information here.
