Spare Voting Record for Council Candidate O’Leary

Town Council candidate Sean O’Leary last voted in a general election in 2010. Since then, O’Leary has voted once, in a special election to fill a vacancy on the School Committee in January 2016. During that time, the other nine candidates for office have voted in every general election, with some candidates missing primary elections.

When asked about his voting record, O’Leary said he didn’t vote in the 2016 election because of “dissatisfaction with the Presidential options.”

He did not respond to a question about what kept him from voting in state and local races in 2012, 2014, and 2016.

“That’s an issue you see raised in campaigns all the time…. In the end the voters will judge whether a person’s prior participation matters,” said Common Cause Executive Director John Marion.

Here are the voting records for all the candidates for town and school offices from 2012 on:

For Town Council

Charles Callanan – Voted in every election except the primary election in Sept. 2016.

Sue Cienki – Voted in every election except the primary election in Sept. 2016.

Caryn Corenthal – Voted in every election except the primary election in Sept. 2016.

Andy Deutsch – Voted in all elections except the primary elections in Sept. 2012 and Sept. 2016.

Mike Donegan – Voted in every election except the primary election in Sept. 2016.

Renu Englehart – Voted in every election except the primary election in Sept. 2016.

Bill Higgins – Voted in every election.

Sean O’Leary – Voted in the Jan. 2016 special School Committee election.

Mark Schwager – Voted in every election.

Mike Zarrella – Voted in every election.

For School Committee

Alyson Powell – Voted in every election since she registered in Rhode Island in 2012.

Gene Quinn – Voted in every election.

Lori McEwen – Voted in every election.

Anne Musella – Voted in every election since she registered in Rhode Island in 2014.

Susan Records – Voted in every election except the primary elections in Sept. 2016 and Sept. 2018.
