East Greenwich residents can now travel up Middle Road without interruption with the reopening Monday of the bridge over Route 4, but now the traffic headaches shift northward, to Route 2 north of Division Street, where the state Department of Transportation is replacing the Route 95 bridge over Route 2 known as the Barton Corner Bridge.
Starting Monday, the Route 95 south Exit 8 is closed, affecting access to Route 2 north only; access to Route 2 south will be available, as well as the on-ramp from Route 2 north to Route 95 south for the 11 days work to move the new bridge will unfold.
Access to I-95 south from Route 2 north will be available via the on-ramp from Route 2 south. A temporary traffic signal will be in place. The on-ramp from Route 2 south to I-95 South and I-95 North Exit 8A (Rte. 2 South) will remain open at all times.
Equally significant (read: bothersome), Route 2 itself will be closed to traffic at specific times during the bridge replacement from Division Street in East Greenwich to just south of James P. Murphy Industrial Highway in West Warwick, starting Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 10 p.m. through the morning commute on Wednesday.
- Friday, Aug. 22, from noon through the afternoon commute.
- Sunday, Aug. 24, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
