Parent Group Petition Seeks Panel To Study Later School Start Time

by | May 7, 2014

The parent group pushing for a later school start time at the middle and high schools has published a petition requesting the School Committee form an ad hoc committee to examine the idea.

“We ask that you prioritize this ‘start school later’ initiative, establish a committee to examine the logistics and other details, and engage the community in a discussion about this proposed change,” reads the petition (which can be found here: http://chn.ge/1ikhRvy). As of May 6, more than 130 signatures had been registered.

Parents in favor of a later start time for older students have been speaking during the public comment portion of School Committee meetings over the past few months, including Peter Snyder, in the video here from the May 6 School Committee meeting. (You can read more about what the parents are saying and watch a video featuring a sampling of EGHS students talking about their sleep schedules here: http://bit.ly/1iVsbvE.)
