Obituary: William E. Manter, 85

William E. Manter, 85, of East Greenwich, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 10. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley H. (Kenyon) Manter. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mildred (Barbour) Manter.

Mr. Manter had been a machinist for Bulova Watch Company and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved baseball and football and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He had been his son’s Little League coach, was an avid gardener and loved to fish and hunt when he was younger. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Theresa L. Cholar, Mitchell C. Manter and Susan M. Bolen and a grandson.

Committal prayers with military honors will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coventry Skilled and Nursing Rehabilitation, 10 Woodland Drive, Coventry, RI 02816.
