Richard H. Olsen, 71, of East Greenwich, peacefully passed away, June 25. He was born in Manchester, N.H., a son of the late Henry and Rose (Guay) Olsen.

Mr. Olsen was a retired engineer for Electric Boat. He had been a radio telegraph operator in the U.S. Marine Corps, was an extraordinary minister at St. Francis de Sales Church in North Kingstown and secretary of the East Greenwich American Legion Post #15.

He leaves behind 3 daughters, Sandra L. Bryant U.S. Army (Ret.) and her husband, William, of San Antonio, Texas; Kristin J. Alicchio and her husband, James, of Westerly; and Kimberly A. Russo and her husband, Stephen, of Warwick; 12 grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Lori, Andrew, Ashlynn, Rebecca, Jay, Dean, Arielle, Corey, Bradley, Kayla and Joshua; a great granddaughter, Mia; 2 brothers John and Peter Olsen; and 2 sisters, Nancy Dery and Gay LaRoche. To his family he was known as “Sweet Lovable Father Dear.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, School St., North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Monday, June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Toys for Tots.
