Obituary: Jane M. Watson, Former School Committee Member

4fecfed3c39ddc29Jane A. Watson, 83, passed away April 3. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Watson. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn (Carmody) McGeary. Jane taught in the Warwick School System for over 35 years, where she was a classroom teacher, an art teacher and taught the gifted and talented students in ALAP. She held a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Pembroke College and the Rhode Island School of Design as well as a Masters Degree from Rhode Island College.

Jane was past president of the Class of ’51 Reunion Committee of Brown University. Jane had a passion for genealogy and was a member of the Rhode Island Historical Society. She was also a member of the East Greenwich School Committee for 8 years, served on the East Greenwich House Republican District Committee (Dist. 30) and was on the Rhode Island Supreme Court Disciplinary Board.

Avid boaters, she and her late husband were members of the East Greenwich and Newport yacht clubs. She is survived by her four children, Stephanie A., David E., Robert A. and Michael A. Watson; and a brother, James E. McGeary. Her funeral will be Tuesday, April 8, at 9 a.m. from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., with a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours are Monday, April 7, 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the East Greenwich Free Library.
