David S. McGovern, 69, died January 25. He was the life partner of Catherine G. Harrigan. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Thomas H. McGovern, Jr., and Helen E. (Scott) McGovern.Mr. McGovern was an executive in the banking and brokerage industry.
He was a member of the first graduating class of Bishop Hendricken High School, a graduate of Boston College and an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also an avid boater and member of the East Greenwich Yacht Club.He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne J. Gorham, her husband Richard and their daughters Emily and Julia; Stephanie Additon, her husband Mark and their daughters Lilly and May; and brothers, Mark S. McGovern and his wife Joyce and Thomas H. McGovern, III and his wife Deborah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Visitation will be prior to the Mass from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VNA Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886, or a charity of choice.
