Middle Road Bridge Is Open Again!

bridge open!
Two days ahead of schedule but none to soon for detour-weary residents, the Middle Road bridge over Route 4 is reopen. The bridge closed June 23 for major resurfacing repairs and the state Department of Transportation said last week the bridge would open again Wednesday, Aug. 20.

In a press release Monday, the DOT said there would be “minor disruptions” over the next few weeks:

We may have some minor disruptions during our upcoming resurfacing operations later this month and in early September, but we will keep you posted. Much of this work will happen early in the morning and shouldn’t impact school traffic or rush-hour commuting times.”

With the start of the fall sports season today (Aug. 18), the reopening comes at a good time, since the only entrance to East Greenwich High School is from Avenger Drive, just north of the bridge. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 27.
