Social Host Charges Dropped Against NK Parent

by | Apr 16, 2014

Social host charges against North Kingstown resident and former East Greenwich School Committee member Jayne Donegan were dropped Tuesday in exchange for Donegan’s $5,000 contribution to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Donegan was accused of allowing drinking at the 16th birthday party for her daughter in January at their home on Wilbert Way in North Kingstown. According to the police report, two young people outside the house told police minors were drinking in the house. Donegan allegedly refused to allow police to enter the house. Police gained entry and found two teenagers who they had taken by rescue to the emergency room because of extreme drunkenness. Police found open containers of alcohol as well as marijuana in the house and estimated that there had been as many as 100 teenagers at the party.

Most of the young people who attended the party were from East Greenwich; Donegan’s daughter is a student at East Greenwich High School (her father lives in EG).

MADD said it would reject the contribution, according to WPRI.

“As much as we’d like to use the money to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking, it’s not right for us to accept money under these conditions,” MADD said in a statement Tuesday.

According to the court, the charge of obstructing police will be dropped if Donegan is not arrested within the next year.

How is a $5,000 contribution to MADD even remotely commensurate with knowingly allowing 16 year olds to get so drunk at your house that they need to be taken by rescue? This lady is clearly a moron with no sense of judgment whatsoever. I would guess $5k is a drop in the bucket so where is the real punishment here? You can’t even look to hold the parents of the kids who were at the party accountable given ‘an adult’ was present. I hope some of these parents look to deal with this civilly since our criminal courts have failed us again. Who is a bigger menace to society, the repeat drug offender sitting in the ACI or this fool?
