To The Editor:
I recently had cause to talk with students and staff at the R.I. Fire Academy in Exeter and I came away with a much greater understanding of what firefighters experience on a daily basis.
When I visited the “burn building” where trainees practice at the Academy, it drove home for me the risk that they are ready to take every day. The fact that they have families at home who worry about their safety is also a sacrifice that should be acknowledged. I can’t imagine going into a burning building to rescue someone, but I’m glad that they can.
Thank you to the East Greenwich firefighters for their courage and their commitment to our town.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Keithline
