Well into the spring season, EG sports teams are doing well. We checked in with Athletic Director Chris Cobain on Friday to get an update.
Girls track: The girls team placed second place (to North Kingstown) in the Southern Division championship. Next up, the class championships and the state open.
Boys track: The boys 4×400 relay team had big success at a recent invitational meet in New York, where they qualified for Nationals in June and set a new EGHS record with a time of 8:02. Class C championships are Saturday.
Boys volleyball: This team has had a terrific season and is tied with Cranston West for second best record in state in D2, having had only one loss (to Tolman). They are 14-1.
Boys baseball: Even with a relatively young team, the baseball team is in second place in D1 South, with a 11-5 record.
Girls softball: The girls are one of the best teams in the state and just clinched the Southern division championship, with a 14-1.
Boys tennis: The D1 team is second place in the south, third or fourth in the state, with an 8-4 record. The top two singles players Shiv Patel and Zach Johnson both advanced to the quarterfinals in the individual state tournament.
Boys lacrosse: The team is first place in D2 south and has the best record in D2, 11-1.
Girls lacrosse: The team is first in D2 south with an 8-4 record.
Golf: The golf team is having a good season, in second place in Central division, posting only one loss
Unified basketball: The team made it to the semi-finals, where it fell to eventual state champs Chariho.
