EG Weekend: Electronics Recycling, Tree Planting, ‘Race 2 Nowhere’

Saturday, Sept. 27

Electronics Recycling at St. Luke’s: Goodwill is holding an electronics recycling drive at St. Luke’s Church, 99 Peirce St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Goodwill accepts all electronics, working or not, EXCEPT flat-screen TVs.

EG Police Department Tree Planting: The new EG Tree Commission is celebrating Arbor Day in September with its inaugural tree planting – three crabapple trees in front of the EG Police Department. Everyone is welcome. 176 First Avenue. 3 p.m.

‘Race to Nowhere’ screening: The Academy Foundation and Start School Later are sponsoring a showing of “Race to Nowhere,” a documentary that challenges the way the educational system operates today. In the auditorium at St. Luke’s Church, 99 Peirce St. 4 p.m. Free.

Singles Mingle @ Symposium: Dating websites are good, but Symposium Books is holding a weekly “Singles Mingle” from 5 to 7 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 28

18th Annual EGAPL Hound Hike: Take your dog for a walk for a good cause – the East Greenwich Animal Protection League’s annual Hound Hike takes place Sunday from noon to 3 at Goddard Park. Register at the Carousel. $20 fee includes lunch provided by the Marra Restaurant Group. Because of the hike, there are NO ADOPTION HOURS this Sunday. They will be back next week.

EG Animal Protection League open house: Every Sunday, the EGAPL opens its doors so people can meet the dogs and cats in need of permanent homes. You can find videos of some of the animals available for adoption here. EG Animal Hospital, 4302 Post Road, Cowesett. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Halloween costume drive: The All Children Matter club at EGHS is holding a used Halloween costume drive, together with DCYF and Foster Foward. Bring your gently used costumes to the high school front entrance through Oct. 13. They are also collecting pajamas, coats and other winter items through Dec. 5. EG Basketball Association 2014-15 registration: Register by the end of September and fees will be the same as last year. On October 1st, a late fee of $25 will be added to each registration. Registration closes Friday, October 17th. To register, go to eghoops.com and click on the Registration tab.
