The annual Save the Bay 1.7 mile swim took place last Saturday – no small accomplishment for the 500 or so swimmers who took part. But, around the world in Turkey, more than 1,600 participants – including a 15-year-old East Greenwich boy – swam from Europe to Asia in the 26th Annual Bosphorus Cross Continental Race.

EGHS junior Timucin Marino placed 57th overall in the 6.5 km (4 mile) swim Cross Continental swim, with a time of 54:25, placing 6th in his age group (men 14-19). This was his third time participating in the swim. Taking part was easier because Marino’s mother’s family lives in Turkey, “but Timucin likes challenging himself in swimming,” said his mother, Abby Marino, a swim official in Rhode Island.

Timucin swims for East Greenwich High School and the SSA USA swim team.
