I’m often asked, how’s it going with East Greenwich News? Invariably, I tell them it’s going well, but that it’s a lot of work. This is a startup and it’s not always pretty! If EG News is going to survive and thrive, I need more help. This week’s series, “EG News Needs … “ outlines the various areas EG News could use the help. (If you missed the first installment, you’ll find it here.)
EG News would LOVE to cover high schools sports. But our lean and mean model (ok, one staff member – me!) leaves pretty much no time for sports coverage.
The good news?
There are people who attend every game and could scribble down some scores and maybe a highlight or two and snap a picture with their smart phone. Those people are parents.
In the fall, Bob Durant (father of two football players) wrote up nearly every football game and the very gracious Mary MacIntosh (parent of an alum, she’s now taking pictures professionally) shared pictures weekly.
And I’ll bet there are some aspiring sportswriters out there – high school students who love basketball, or maybe soccer, softball, or tennis. How about lacrosse, wrestling or hockey? Or track & field, swimming, volleyball, or cross country? You don’t have to cover every game – or even one a week. Articles on a couple games or matches during the regular season would set us up nicely for the playoffs.
If words aren’t your game, pictures and/or video would be terrific too.
Your contributions would be a gift to the community. If you are interested or just want to learn more, send an email to [email protected].
Thanks!
