EG News Earns Tax Exempt Status!

by | May 6, 2019

It’s our pleasure to announce that East Greenwich News has achieved federal tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status! When restarting EG News in late 2017, we decided to incorporate as a nonprofit corporation. We filed for federal tax exempt status in 2018. The idea behind incorporating as a nonprofit was to give EG News a variety of ways to generate revenue  through donations, corporate sponsorships and grants.

It seems there are reports nearly daily about local news outlets that are closing or shrinking. That is not good for democracy or informed communities. With tax-exempt status, East Greenwich News is closer to becoming an entity that can report the news in East Greenwich for years to come.

We are very grateful to those who have donated already, particularly those who are sustaining donors. Your donations are now really and truly tax deductible. But we need a lot more readers to invest in EG News. If you’ve been waiting until we got our 501(c)(3) status, now is the time to make a donation (click on the link below or send a check to EG News, 18 Prospect St., E.G., RI 02818). If you are a business owner interested in becoming a sponsor or buying a sponsor ad, reach contact ML Formisano, our director of sponsorship at [email protected].

Finally, if anyone would like to get involved in helping EG News grow, there are plenty of opportunities, from grant writing or helping with the Events Calendar to working on a special event or writing a regular column. If you would like to get involved in building this online resource for our town, contact [email protected].

Value the news you get here on East Greenwich News? As a 501-c3, we depend on reader support. Become a sustaining (monthly) donor or make a one-time donation! Click on the Donate button below or send a check to EG News, 18 Prospect St., East Greenwich, RI 02818. Thanks.
