Cole Global Studies Lecture Series: Rosemary Mahoney will be at Cole Middle School Friday evening to speak about her book, For the Benefit of Those Who See, Dispatches From the World of the Blind, a nonfiction book about her travels to schools for the blind in India and Tibet. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. and a question-and-answer segment will follow. Free.

EGHS Boys Basketball: EG Boys Basketball team squeeked past Burrillville 45-44 Wednesday night to proceed to the semifinals tonight. They will play Juanita Sanchez at Roger Williams College in Bristol at 8 p.m. Go Avengers!

Winter Farmers Market: The Coastal Growers Winter Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a wide variety of vendors, including Pat’s Pastured, Besto Pesto, Robin Hollow Farm and the Local Catch, to name a few. They also feature live music, with tables where you can listen to music and eat some yummy local fare. At the Lafayette Mill, 650 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown.

Mad Poets Cafe: New England-based group Brother’s Keeper is the kickoff performance to reopen Mad Poets Cafe at the Warwick Art Museum. The group blends poetry, music, and theatre elements in performances that explore the human experience from a male perspective. Light refreshments will be served and there’s plenty of free parking behind the museum and Warwick City Hall. 3259 Post Road, Warwick. 7 to 9 p.m.

EG Animal Protection League Open House: Every Sunday, the EGAPL opens its doors so people can meet the dogs and cats in need of permanent homes. You can find videos of some of the animals available for adoption here. At Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital, 5732 Post Road. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
