Odeum’s ‘September To Remember’: Comedy, Rock, Kids Music

by | Sep 4, 2014

After a relatively quiet summer, the Greenwich Odeum is open with a capital O for business this fall, with 15 shows lined up between now and the end of the year.

The season kicks off with what the theater is calling its “3D September.” No, this is not about wearing funny glasses. Rather, it’s a riff off the names of the three acts: Joe DeVito, Playing Dead, and Dan Zanes.

Joe DeVito is coming to the Odeum Saturday, Sept. 13.

DeVito’s TV appearances include “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS, Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and the semi-finals on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”

He is the first of four comedians to perform this fall – one each month.

In October, The Odeum presents Paul D’Angelo, called “the funniest entertainer you’ve never heard of … yet,” by the Los Angeles Times. In November, it’s Jim Colliton, who has appeared on Ed McMahon’s “Next Big Star,” Comcast’s “Comedy Spotlight,” Comedy Central’s “Laugh Riots” and XM Satellite Radio’s Comedy Channel. And rounding it out in December is Ken Rogerson from this season’s “Last Comic Standing,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

Tickets for individual shows are $15 or buy all four for $40.

Playing Dead comes to the Odeum Saturday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m.

Playing Dead is Boston’s premiere Grateful Dead Tribute band. Tickets are $15 for this opportunity to enjoy some great ’60s and ’70s music.

Dan Zanes plays the Odeum Saturday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m.

The Grammy Award-winning musician has made a career out of making both children and their parents happy. “The Dan Zanes Song Gusto Hour” is a chance for music lovers of all ages to gather and sing at the top of their lungs – the atmosphere is loose, communal, and festive. Songbooks will be provided and people are invited to bring their instruments.

Referred to as “the family-music genre’s most outspoken and eloquent advocate” by Time Magazine, Zanes and his music have been all been featured on Sesame Street, Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon, HBO Family and Sprout.

Zanes won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children for his 2006 album Catch That Train.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $25 at the door (night of the performance).

Tickets for all the shows can be purchased online at www.TheOdeum.org or by calling the box office at (401) 885-4000. Tickets can also be purchased at the Odeum’s box office partner, Main Street Music, at 4 King St., East Greenwich, from noon to 6 p.m. Mon-Fri.
