Primaries for local races are rare in East Greenwich, but the decision by four of the five sitting members to step down from the council brought out an unusually large number of candidates, including six Republicans. All five council seats are up for reelection, but with six GOP candidates, there will be a primary Sept. 9 to narrow the field to five.

The five primary winners will go on to face two Democrats and one independent in the Nov. 4 general election. Dumas, Field, Isaacs, Cienki and Todd are the endorsed candidates. We asked the Republican candidates to answer a questionnaire. Here are their responses, listed in alphabetical order. Click on each name to link to the candidate questionnaire:

Robert B. Bolton

Suzanne McGee Cienki

Eugene H. Dumas

Edward J. Field

Michael B. Isaacs

Sean M. Todd
