Police Log: A LOT of Phone Calls; Driving Badly

Monday, August 27

1 p.m. – An East Greenwich man told police he was receiving harassing phone calls from his son’s ex-girlfriend. He said he’d complained about this before but that it had stopped for a couple of years but had recently resumed after the resolution of a court case between his son and the woman, who lives in Warwick. The man said the ex-girlfriend had been calling family members and he was able to show evidence of more than 250 calls made over a four-day span. Police said they would speak to the woman.

8:45 p.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich man, 45, for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing a chemical breath test after he allegedly hit a car at First Avenue and Division Street, then drove off. Police were en route to the accident scene when they got a report the man had just pulled into the shopping plaza at 1000 Division St. Police found the car parked at McDonald’s, running with the key in the ignition. They found the man, who told police he’d been in an accident, that he was a drunk and that they should just arrest him. He smelled of alcohol, according to the report. He was taken into custody and processed at the station.

Tuesday, August 28

3:20 p.m. – An East Greenwich man regarding identify fraud. He told police that he received a bill for $337.83 from Sprint cell phone services. The man called Sprint regarding the bill and he was told it was because of the five cell phones, which were recently purchased under his name. He was advised to file a police report by Sprint’s fraud investigator.

Wednesday, August 29

7:30 p.m. – Police arrested a West Warwick man, 39, for driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to chemical test and driving with a suspended license after police were called to New London Turnpike to help Coventry Police with an intoxicated driver who was suspected of  earlier accidents in Warwick and West Warwick. In addition, the state police, and police from Warwick and West Warwick were there. Coventry police said they’d spotted a driver operating erratically and dangerously resulting in a traffic stop. The driver, disheveled, appeared agitated and annoyed. He agreed to take the field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was taken into custody and brought to EGPD for processing and issued a summons for driving under the influence, second offense.

Thursday, August 30

8:30 p.m. – Police took custody of a Warwick man, 41, after Warwick Police arrested him on an EGPD warrant. After processing at the station, he was released with a Third District Court summons for failing to stop after an accident and driving with a suspended license.

Sunday, September 2

8:15 a.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich man, 19, for disorderly conduct and vandalism after police found the man yelling and trying to break the metal post holding a handicap sign that was in front of the library on Peirce Street. The man said he was also responsible for newspapers strewn around. He said he was angry that his girlfriend wanted to leave. He was charged with disorderly conduct, placed into custody and transported to the station for processing.
