Obituary: Edmond P. Magner, 89, WWII Veteran

Edmond P. Magner, P., 89, passed away Nov. 21. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, M. Theresa (Gamache) Magner. Born in Pascoag, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Edmond and Cora (Tessier) Magner.

Mr. Magner worked for Hanover Insurance, Providence Washington Insurance and retired as vice president of Metropolitan P&C Insurance Company.

He was a US Army WWII veteran with the rank of sergeant severing with the 75th Infantry. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a 1948 graduate of Providence College, a 1950 graduate of Georgetown University and was a former president of the EG Library Board.

Beside his wife he is survived by two children James W. Magner of Framingham, Mass., and Jean A. Cloutier of Agawam, Mass., and his grandson James C. Magner, Jr., and his loving daughter-in-law Martha Magner.

The funeral is Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 9 a.m. from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., E.G. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, E.G. Calling hours Monday, Nov. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
