Monday, Dec. 18

11:03 a.m. – A Pequot Trail resident told police that a package was missing from her home. The package had been delivered by FedEx on Dec.14 and had been left near the front of her garage. It was addressed to someone else and the resident had not ordered anything so she contacted FedEx, which told her to leave the package where it had been left and they would pick it up. When FedEx did come to pick it up, however, the package was gone.

4:12 p.m. – A Great Road resident told police that her son’s bike had been missing. She told police her son had ridden his bike to his school bus stop that morning and left the bike leaning against a telephone phone at the corner of Cindy Ann Drive and Great Road. When her son got off the bus in the afternoon he noticed his bike was missing. The estimated value of the bike is $200.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

3:40 p.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich woman, 46, on a warrant from North Kingstown Police for a violation of a No Trespass order. North Kingstown police called EG police to ask them if they could find her. Police found her at her house, took her into custody and drove her to EGPD where North Kingstown police picked her up.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

7:31 a.m – Police responded to the Playground Preschool at 1635 Division Road for a call that cars had been broken into it. One of the car owners told police she’d left her car outside while she took her child into school. When she returned to her car she found that her front right side window had been smashed and her purse was gone from the front seat. The car had been locked. Another person told police that she had parked her car in front of the daycare to drop off her child, leaving her purse on the passenger seat. When she returned, the purse was gone. The car had been unlocked.

When police were inside the daycare an employee of the daycare told police that she saw a white car in the parking lot that was unfamiliar to her and moving around suspiciously. Police reviewed camera video footage and saw the white color car in the lot. The video footage showed a man wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark pants get out of the driver’s seat and peek into car windows.

While police were reviewing camera footage, one of the women whose purse was stolen told police the “Find My iPhone” feature on her cell phone showed her phone was in the parking lot of Academy for Children at 10 J.P. Murphy Highway in West Warwick. A short time later, police learned the state police had found the suspect car and stopped it in the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station on Route 2 and Division Road. EG police went to station and talked to the three women who were in the car. They said they didn’t have any knowledge about the thefts or the male suspect. Police searched the car and had it impounded. Police later found three purses and a laptop computer in the dumpster at the Academy for Children at 10 J.P. Murphy Highway. Two of the purses and the laptop had been taken from cars at Playground Preschool Daycare. The owner of the phone that was used to locate the other items and her husband found the phone in a tree at Academy for Children. The suspect remains at large. 

Thursday, Dec. 21

12:41 a.m. – Residents of the OLM neighborhood called police after seeing two people get out of a car parked near Second Street and Fifth Avenue and disappear around the back of a house. There were several break ins in the area in November. Police found the people, who said they were looking for someone they thought lived in the house. They gave police a name but police found no such person lived there. The car registration was not valid and the driver had an unnotarized bill of sale for the car. Police had it towed.

10:50 a.m. – Police arrested a Coventry woman, 49, on a warrant. The woman had been involved in a car accident and police round the warrant (out of Pawtucket) while running routine checks. She was taken into custody.

3:45 p.m. – The owner of the Greenwich Hotel on Main Street said two people staying there were behind on their bill, owing $680. Police agreed to hold off on action pending a payment plan the hotel owner had worked out with the residents.

7:15 p.m. –A Middle Road resident told police she was missing 12 bangle bracelets valued at $18,000. She said the last time she’d seen the bracelets was in November and she thought maybe her son had taken them – she said he’d taken things in the past. At first, the son denied taking the bracelets but eventually admitted he’d taken them and sold them over a period of time. She declined to bring charges.

Saturday, Dec. 23

6:11 a.m. – An employee from Cumberland Farms on Post Road told police about 6 packs of cigarettes that had been stolen. He a woman came to the counter with a bottle of orange juice and asked to buy 6 packs of Newport 100 cigarettes. She then asked for a bag as she swiped her credit card. The cashier asked her to enter her zip code on the pin pad which but she walked out with the cigarettes without completing the purchase.
