Now that the town’s 2019 budget has been passed, attention turns back to the town manager search, which has been going on for months but appears to be nearing an end. According to Town Councilor Nino Granatiero, the council will vote on a candidate at its next regular meeting, Monday, June 25.
Council members have declined to say who is in the running for the position, including whether or not current Town Manager Gayle Corrigan is a candidate.
Corrigan has a one-year contract for the position that ends June 30. Her tenure has been marked by tumult and extensive critical analysis of the fire department, particularly the firefighters and high overtime costs. To that end, she fired former chief Russ McGillivray in November. Since then, the department has seen two interim chiefs, including current interim Kevin Robinson, and the return of former EG Fire District chief Peter Henrikson, who she hired as deputy chief in May.
The council met for more than two hours May 8 to discuss the candidates. After that meeting, Granatiero said the council needed more discussion.
On Tuesday, he said the council will be ready to make a decision by June 25.
“We’ve had plenty of time to think about it.”

Who are the candidates? Nino has a history of ignoring public opinion. I suspect his primary candidate is the present town manager which will mark the death knell of his role as a representative of the majority.
