by | Sep 30, 2014

These reports come from the East Greenwich Police Department and are public information. An arrest does not mean the individual has been convicted of a crime. EG News does not identify those arrested for misdemeanor charges.

Sunday, Sept. 21

5:33 p.m. – The manager of Dave’s at 1000 Division St. told police a man left the store pushing a cart full of food he did not pay for and the man fled, leaving the cart, when approached by the manager. The items in the cart – shrimp, fresh corn, potatoes, a large pumpkin, parmesan cheese, and sesame oil – totalled $51.68. The manager gave police a still photo of the suspect from the surveillance video, which showed an older white man with curly dark, graying hair. The car, however, came back registered to an Asian female from Providence. EG police asked Providence police to contact the owner about the incident.

11:49 a.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich man, 21, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped on Division Street east of First Avenue because his car did not have a front license plate. Routine checks turned up the license violation. Police gave the man a 3rd District Court summons and had his car towed from the scene. The man walked home.

Monday, Sept. 22

12:54 p.m. – Police documented several instances of left-facing swastikas in the London Street underpass, as well as symbols of drug use. The Dept. of Public Works was notified.

10 a.m. – A resident of Eagle Lane told police her dog bit a child in the arm who went to pet it. The injury was minor. The dog’s owner came to the station to sign a quarantine order and brought proof of rabies vaccination.

1:45 p.m. – Police arrested a Providence man, 65, in a shoplifting incident that took place on Sept. 21. The suspect was found after police google-mapped the address on the car’s registration and could see the car in the driveway of the residence. While talking to one of the residents, police saw a man who looked like the man pictured in the surveillance video. Police gave the man a 3rd District Court summons and told him he needed to report to EGPD for processing before his court date.

Tuesday, Sept. 23

4:15 p.m. – Police arrested a West Warwick man, 19, on a 3rd District Court bench warrant after he was pulled over on Main Street because a rear window was broken and a brake light was out. Checks of the occupants turned up the warrant for the West Warwick man, a passenger. He was processed at the station and taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston. The driver was let off with a warning.

6:26 p.m. – Police arrested an East Greenwich woman, 57, for domestic simple assault and disorderly conduct after she was seen pouring a beer over and hitting a man in the face on Water Street. The alleged victim refused medical help. The suspect was arraigned at the station by a justice of the peace and released.

10:10 p.m. – An East Greenwich man told police his car had been vandalized – front and rear tires slashed – while it was parked on Main Street.
